Ransom Homers In Aces Win

RENO, Nev.— Aces shortstop Cody Ransom matched a pair of single-season franchise records Thursday night, leading Reno to a 7-6 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.

With the win, the first-place Aces move a franchise-record 18 games over .500 and improve to 19-5 this season in series openers.

Ransom hit a solo home run in the third inning, part of a four-run frame that put the Aces ahead for good. The long ball marked Ransom's 25th, tying an Aces single-season franchise record. His league-leading 86th RBI of the campaign also tied a single-season club record.

Barry Enright (8-2) earned the win for the Aces, scattering five runs on 10 hits over six innings of work. Jeff Bennett, Kam Mickolio and Jordan Norberto picked up holds before Bryan Shaw tossed a perfect ninth for his seventh save of the season.

At the plate for Reno, Robby Hammock went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Konrad Schmidt finished with two hits—including his sixth long ball of the season—and two RBIs.

The loss fell to Sky Sox starter Clayton Mortensen (0-4), who surrendered six runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings of work.

The Aces and Sky Sox will resume the series on Friday night from Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (5-1, 6.68 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Colorado Springs will counter with RHP Greg Reynolds (5-2, 6.08 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT
