Dangerous Conditions Help Fires Spread in Arizona

The elements are coming together to create dangerous fire conditions in southern and southeastern Arizona.

Most of southern Arizona is under a red flag warning for gusty winds.

The biggest wildfire in state history is closing in on a half million acres burned. The U.S. Forest Service says the Wallow fire has scorched more than 770 square miles. Fire officials say it remains 33% contained and crews plan to reinforce containment lines today.

Meanwhile, burned acreage numbers are up and the containment number is down on the Monument Fire burning near Sierra Vista. The Forest Service says containment has fallen to 15 percent and the fire has burned more than 18,000 acres. Aircraft have been bombing the wildfire with water and fire-suppressing chemicals, but the planes could be grounded this afternoon as winds pick up.

And the Horseshoe Two wildfire in southeastern Arizona has burned more than 200,000 acres. It is 65% contained.
