REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - One person was killed and at least one injured when a sailboat taking part in an amateur race collided with a channel marker buoy in San Francisco Bay. KTVU-TV reports the crash involving the 42-foot Catalina sailboat "Bella" was reported shortly before 7 last night just off Redwood City. Television news footage showed the boat's mast completely snapped off.

MERCED, Calif. (AP) - A Central Valley dentist accused of groping four female patients while they were sedated is facing three years in prison after pleading no contest to sexual battery charges. Sang Hyuk Park entered the plea yesterday in Merced County Superior Court just as jury selection was set to begin. Prosecutors tell the Merced Sun-Star Park will register as a sex offender and serve three years in prison.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The lawyer who argued before the Supreme Court in favor of upholding California's ban on gay marriage learned during his handling of the case that one of his children is gay. Now Charles Cooper says his own view of same-sex marriage is evolving. According to a new book, Cooper learned that his stepdaughter Ashley was gay as the Proposition 8 case wound its way through appellate court.

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors have filed a murder charge against a 30-year-old woman accused of shooting killing a 16-year-old boy outside a Richmond apartment complex. The Contra Costa Times reports Melinda Gaffney surrendered at San Francisco police headquarters Monday morning. Witnesses tell police she argued with Terrance Folks in front of the complex shortly before he was shot.
