RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County School Superintendent Pedro Martinez is suing the school district over his dismissal in a closed-door meeting earlier this week. Martinez says the meeting was illegal and the Reno Gazette-Journal is asking the Nevada attorney general to investigate whether the board violated open meetings law.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A judge has ruled that a 16-year-old boy charged with shooting his 18-year-old brother to death will be sent to a mental health facility, rather than stand trial for murder. The judge ruled that the teen was not competent to stand trial. Police say the boys' mother witnessed the May 22 shooting.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - President Obama has signed into law legislation Nevada's congressional delegation sought in an effort to launch the long-awaited cleanup of a toxic, abandoned manganese mine in Henderson. The measure turns the mine over to Henderson's redevelopment agency, which will work with a developer to complete cleanup and build a residential community.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The number of visitors coming to Las Vegas jumped 3.1 percent in June compared with a year earlier, helped by a lift in convention attendance. A report released today by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says almost 3.5 million people came to Sin City last month, compared with about 3.4 million last June.
