Dean Heller Reaction to Possible Yucca Mountain Push

There's some heated reaction from soon-to-be-senator Dean Heller about a possible push to put Yucca Mountain back on the table.

The group in charge of an old nuclear reactor in Washington state asked the Energy Department about the cost of storing high-level radioactive waste in the absence of Yucca Mountain.

The Energy Communities Alliance also sent a letter to the Energy Secretary, expressing worry that storage costs will end up coming out of clean-up funds, estimated at $240 million.

And Congressman Heller released a statement sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee:

"It is time for proponents of Yucca Mountain to move on. The fact that Yucca Mountain is a threat to public safety should be enough to terminate this project, but given our nation's dire financial situation it makes little sense to keep spending taxpayer dollars on this ill-conceived project."
