Chris Ciarlo got his start in broadcasting when he was 18 years old while attending high school in Vancouver, Washington. He worked as a television play-by-play announcer for three years, before moving to Reno in 2005. Chris attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he continued his education and earned his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.
After graduating, Chris was hired at Channel 2 News as an associate producer and weekend assignment editor. A short time later, he started sports reporting for the 'Inside the 2' and '2 the Hoop' high school football and basketball shows. A year later, Chris was promoted news reporter.
Since becoming a news reporter, Chris has covered many significant stories in northern Nevada. He covered the 2011 Nevada Legislature and was the first to break the story on the budget agreement between lawmakers that session. He was also live on scene at the Ihop shooting in Carson City, the air race crash at the Reno-Stead Airport and the Caughlin Fire.
After a couple of years in the field, Chris was promoted to the desk as the weeknight 11pm anchor.
Chris says being a journalist is a huge responsibility because you become the eyes and ears of the public. He says despite covering a number of tragedies, what comes to mind are not the horrific images from these disasters, but rather the community's ability to pull together and persevere.
"I never knew where the broadcasting business would take me, but it has taught me the power of media does exist. When used in the right way, absent of any bias, we can become a powerful platform, telling not only the negative news, but showing the resolve of the human race to overcome the worst. Our community is one of a kind, stepping up when called upon and for that I am proud to be a Nevadan."
You can catch Chris' reports weeknights on the 5 and 6:30pm shows as well as anchoring the 11pm news.
Chris also hosts Face the State, a weekly show dedicated to digging deeper into issues facing Nevadans. You can catch the show every Saturday and Sunday on Channel 2.
If you enjoy sports talk, Chris also Co-hosts the "Ben and Chris Show" Monday thru Fridays at 1pm on Fox Sports Radio 630AM.
