Wednesday we caught up with the newest candidate to unseat Senator Harry Reid, Republican John Chachas, someone we haven't heard much from.
He's been in the financial services industry for 23 years and says the recession really inspired him to serve. "As I saw this financial crisis unfold in the fall of 2008 and all through 2009, I became more and more convinced that this really is a seminal moment in American political life."
Chachas is originally from Ely, but has most recently lived in New York advising small and big businesses.
If elected, he says his understanding of the private sector will help rebuild Nevada's economy and the foreclosure crisis.
When asked about his Republican opponents, former state GOP chairwoman and casino owner Sue Lowden, former star UNLV basketball player Danny Tarkanian and former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle Chachas played it cool. "I have great respect for the people who have gotten into this race. All I can really do is speak to my own, my own agenda and she and Mr. Tarkanian and Mrs. Angle will have to speak to what they have in mind."
Chachas says he doesn't want to be a career politician. If elected, he says he'd only serve a few terms.
