A winter storm unloaded plenty of snow, even setting some records in various areas throughout Reno Saturday night. Various areas of the valley received between five to ten inches of snow. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport received nearly a foot of snow in less than 24 hours. Areas around Cold Springs and Spanish Springs have as much as 12-15 inches of snow. The mountains have received more than a foot of white stuff as well.

The National Weather Service has canceled a winter storm warning. However, scattered snow showers will remain in the Reno area throughout most of the morning and then taper off Sunday afternoon.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say the heavy snow showers have made quite a mess for drivers. They say the Sunday morning commute was littered with multiple wrecks. If you plan on driving, be safe and give yourself time. Snow plows are working on the roads, but they are still slick and covered with snow. Channel 2 has crews throughout town and we will have live updates at the top of each hour.

Also, you can watch Channel 2 News live at five and six-thirty tonight.

The day use area at the homeless shelter is closed, for now.  Homeless individuals typically use the area as a place to stay, during the daytime hours. It's run by Volunteers of America, in partnership with the City of Reno, who say its temporary closure is a small sacrifice for the better.
