It sits just to the left of the movie theatre at Summit Sierra Mall. And a quick pan of the inside makes you think it's a nice pizza joint. And while it is that it also is a pizza joint like no other.
Dwight Pace owns Pizza Balls with his brother. "If you like Hawaiian pizza, it's the beach ball. If you like hot pizza it's the fire ball and foul ball. The idea is everybody gets what they want."
It's not a slice of pizza, or even a pie. But a ball of gooey goodness. Here's how they're made.
First, the dough, which is sweeter and lighter than typical pizza dough, is flattened out. Two circles are then cut out of the dough. Then, all the ingredients you specifically ordered are plopped down on to the bottom piece. All of that is then covered with some more dough and your ball is dropped into the deep fryer. Once it's golden brown it served piping hot.
Besides their signature balls they also have salads and some other small items for the kids. Plus, an impressive beer and wine list. "We're a fast casual. We're not a high end Italian by any means. But that doesn't mean you can't come in and get a good glass of wine and we try to price them reasonable so I think people get surprised that we do have some good choices."
The price range is $3.95 to about $6.95 for larger pizza balls. And they have a wall of fame. A huge 3 pound ball that you get for free if you eat it in an hour. Good luck!
