The holidays are here whether you’re ready for them or not. Thanksgiving is under a week away and then it will be a dead run through to New Years. The retailers are ready, decorating is already underway and the ski resorts are poised just waiting for the snow. So on the list of Things 2 Do this weekend, your options for gearing up for the season and helping out those in need as you do.

You can donate running shoes, help a senior citizen in need, herald Santa's arrival to the Summit, shop local artists or ski Tahoe. It’s all on this week’s list.

Bobofest 2009: Bobofest 2009 Reno Friday night. This is the 25th year for that celebration of the ski season. It’s a trade show with manufacturing reps showing off the latest gear; it’s a family friendly event that will include Warren Miller’s latest Xtreme Ski File called Dynasty; and it’s a fundraiser for the skiers of tomorrow at the Sky Tavern Jr. Ski Program.

Local Holiday Shopping Extravaganza: The eWomen Network is putting it on and they are including local artisans for jewelry, clothing, leather goods and more. Their 4th annual event is expected to be a great way to buy local for Christmas and great networking. Comedian Kat Simmons will be on hand as entertainment. It all starts at 5 Friday evening at the Atlantis.

The Summit Tree lighting and the Arrival of Santa: Santa will get a tremendous welcome this Saturday to the Summit Mall in south Reno. Fireworks, a huge holiday tree, elves and sales, sales, sales by the merchants excited for the holiday shopping season. Don’t be late…Santa is set to arrive at 6:30 pm.  http://thesummitonline.com

Girlfriends Giving Back (for Casa De Vida):  Every year eight friends get together, pick a charity for the holidays and throw a party. This year it is Friday night the 20th  and the private home of Amy Newberry to benefit Casa de Vida, a local home for pregnant teens. Food will be provided by the California Avenue Deli, there’ll be live music and they are asking that you bring something to add to a basket for a teenage mom. Scotch and Ski: A fundraiser for the UNR Ski team will be an event for downtown’s Irish Pub Ceol. Starts at 3pm on Saturday the 21st  $25 gets you in. There’ll be food, wine, and entertainment. And the money will help keep UNR’s Ski Team on the slopes. Info: http://www.ceolirishpub.com/

Running Shoe and Race Shirt Drive to Benefit the Kids Kottage:  Saturday November 21st at Eclipse Running at 6990 S. McCarran Blvd from 10-2 the Reno Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure is spearheading the drive. For information contact Eric at (775) 825-3399 or  eric@renotahoeodyssey.com

Kick-off for the Salvation Army’s Silver Angel Tree: 10am-7 pm at Shopper’s Square stop by and help a senior citizen this holiday. You can brighten the holidays for a low-income senior in need. Contact Carole at (775) 688-4555. 

Santa Paws Holiday Auction:  The 9th annual silent auction to benefit Nevada County’s animals. Saturday 11/21 6-10 pm the Miner’s Foundry in Nevada City.  www.animalsave.org
