Engineering students from California and the University of Nevada competed in the Mid Pacific Regional Conference of the Annual American Society of Civil Engineers Conference.
Engineering teams from 6 universities will try to unseat UNR, which is the concrete canoe team national champion.
The team members have been building their canoes for months and they are judged for their designs, durability and other categories.
The UNR team said they are ready to take on the challenge and take home the national champion again this year. "We have a lot of great competition but we are confident in our paddling ability. We've been paddling since August and we'll take any whether they throw our way," said UNR paddling coach Jeff Weagel.
The awards ceremony is happening Saturday night.
The top two teams will move on to the national competition in Alabama this summer.
