Several non-profits are gearing up for the holidays. And they need your help making the winter months brighter for the less fortunate.
The Salvation Army in Reno is holding its 11th annual 'Stuff a Bus' campaign through noon Friday at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. Last year the organization helped more than 15,000 local families. This year, because of the economy, they expect more people to ask for help. "It's one of the events we count on. We have so many people asking for assistance during not only the holidays, but the entire year," says Carole Miller.
The Salvation Army needs things like canned foods, turkeys, toys and warm clothes. If you are looking for help, you have six weeks to apply at their offices in northeast Reno.
Evelyn Mount and our radio news partner Alice 96.5 collected food at the pink Scolari's on South Virginia. Donations will benefit her annual thanksgiving food drive. Volunteers say they collected thousands of dollars and a 100 turkeys.
If you couldn't donate today, you can always go to her house located at 2530 Cannan Street or at any Sak n' Save location. Evelyn needs hundreds of turkeys and thousands of canned food for the holidays.
And don't forget our 17th annual "Share your Christmas" Drive-by Food Drive on December 11th from 6am to 6pm.
