Have you hugged your kids today? Michelle Nichols is a Reno mom who lost her own son to illness when he was nine. She helped organize a national holiday reminding all parents to hug their kids everyday, something she wishes she could do again. "It's about appreciating what you have when you have it."
She's a made a nationwide push to make sure everyone is reminded everyday.
Drew Simpson and his family are especially thankful to have the ability to hug each other this year. In fact he is this year's ambassador for Hug Your Kids Day. A stand-out baseball player in high school he suffered a level 14 coma after falling down stairs a year ago. But he survived the brain damage and is back on the field. And he and his family appreciate every day together. "Baseball used to be my life," he says. "Now, I look at things differently and I focus on my family. They are everything to me."
Last year 300 people turned out to Hug their Kids in the biggest little hug in the Biggest Little City. This year they are hoping for 1,000 people on the plaza at the Reno Aces stadium in downtown Reno at 6:15pm.
