Galena High School has won the 2009 Siemens State School Award for advanced placements.
The school is only one of 50 nationwide to win the award this year. Galena will get $1,000 in grants to support science and education.
The award is given to schools with students who scored high on their AP classes. These are high school classes with college level material. Students who pass can receive college credit for their work.
The Siemens Foundation provides more than $7 million a year to support educational programs involving science, math, technology and engineering.
