Kellene Stockwell Channel 2 News The first wind turbine in downtown Reno was unveiled Thursday with word that some businesses should see their power bill drop.
Architecture firm ‘Cathexes' transformed an old downtown warehouse into office-space where the official ribbon cutting ceremony was held.
With the wind turbine, tenants qualify for a financial incentive program from NV Energy. Customers who qualify can earn up to $2.50 per watt.
The turbine can produce up to 2.4 kilowatts of power which adds up to $6,000 in savings. "The buyers, the bankers, the appraisers - they all really see the long-term value of this and start valuing it because people want it; it's just getting the powers-to-be," says Don Clark.
The manufacturer says the turbine is designed to operate quietly and produce electricity in very low winds.
