More than 500 Nevadans got tickets to go to the inauguration. Hundreds more are in Washington D.C. to experience this historic day first-hand. The locals who spoke to Channel 2 News all used the word "unity."

They were amazed at how one man can bring together an entire nation. Among the crowd of millions were students from Northern Nevada high schools and former Barack Obama campaign volunteers and staffers. They all say the long trek, the crowds, the cold, were worth it to witness President Obama's inauguration.

Teacher at Wooster High, Boyardde Volo-Fine says, "It's historical the first African-American President, but people see him as a unifying force. They want a glimpse of this, it's incredible."

Joe Tierney, a teacher at Damonte Ranch High says, "Being with strangers who you don't even know, but still feeling unity, feeling that we are all Americans."

Matt McKnight, a former Obama staffer says, "People from all ethnic groups and age groups, everyone hopes for a new chapter in American history."

Wooster High student, Angela Leone was just outside the National Mall and she says, "I was huddled next to a man I've never met in my life. Listening to his cell phone with his daughter on the line and she held it to a TV so we could hear more clearly what was happening."

Chase Silver, a Damonte Ranch High student says, "It's amazing it was so crowded. Where we were getting through masses, it was like wall to wall sardines of human beings. It was crazy."

McKnight describes the crowds by saying, "At one point I was moving through the crowd I wasn't on the ground, I was being carried by people around me!"

Leone says, "It was obvious there was a lot of hope and expectation."

Cody Saunders from Wooster High says, "It was very emotional for sure. There's a sense about it. You don't know these people but you know you're excited by this one man - it was pretty sweet."
