Some Nevada Republicans gathered in Reno Saturday for what they're calling Round Two of the state party convention. Organizers say all 34 delegates needed for September's National Convention were selected. But some say this meeting is useless and will actually hurt the party in the long run.
Sparks resident Wayne Terhune reconvened the meeting after state party officials abruptly stopped the original convention back in April. Terhune said many of the delegates support Ron Paul over John McCain.
But now he said his mission goes far beyond whose name appears on the presidential ballot. Terhune says it's a right and wrong issue and he wants to return this process to the delegates. Many delegates who showed up asked whether or not their presence will make a difference.
Paul Jackson, a John McCain supporter said no. He pointed to the rows of empty chairs in the ballroom as proof that this convention doesn't have enough delegates to establish a quorum, or a simple majority.
Washoe County Republican Party Chairman Heidi Smith says in the end she respects all Republicans for speaking their minds.
The State Republican Party has set a date for its next convention. It's going to be on July 26th at the Peppermill. They will be inviting all 1,300 credential state delegates to that meeting.
