
Plastic shopping bags could be on their way out of Reno at the request of Mayor Bob Cashell.
Cashell wants staff to research the options of requiring stores to only use biodegradable plastics or ban them from using petroleum-based bags. "Anything to help the environment and the world to be a better place is just a good thing," says Reno resident Gerry Genaurio.
The City already has dozens of programs as part of its Green Initiative. If the measure goes through, it would fall under the same category. "Reno's growing so rapidly that we really need to think about the resources that we're using," says Kaitlyn Whiteside.

Some stores across the Truckee Meadows already give you the choice of bringing in your used plastic bags and recycling them. Or you can earn money for bringing in re-usable bags for between 5-10 cents per bag.
San Francisco and other California cities already have plastic bans in place.
