A Reno engineer hopes to secure some 20,000 acre feet of water for the Truckee Meadows and surrounding areas.
Engineer Tom Gallagher wants to get water from Granite Springs Valley and pipe it to Fernley.
He said future phases of the plan would call for sending water to the Reno-Sparks area.
A series of hearings on the matter is scheduled for this week.
