Eureka County Clerk's Race Goes To Recount

Posted:

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The race for clerk-treasurer in northern Nevada's sparsely populated Eureka County is going to a recount.

Out of 749 votes cast in last week's general election, incumbent Jackie Berg, a member of the Independent American Party, appeared to have won by three votes over Carrie Wright, a Republican challenger who previously worked in the clerk's office.

Berg received 376 votes to Wright's 373. Wright requested a recount last Friday.

State election officials say some concerns also were raised about the handling of an absentee ballot and the presence of white out in the tally room.

Deputy Secretary of State Matt Griffin says there's no evidence white out was used to alter ballots, but adds the issue will be reviewed as part of the recount process on Friday.
