Retailers Banking on Happy Holidays Ahead

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in every retail shop around town! While we may not be quite thinking holiday shopping yet, retailers are in full holiday mode.

The National Retail Federation has released it's predictions for holiday sales and they are optimistically up. They are forecasting that collectively we will spend $447-Billion during this holiday season up by 2.3% over last year.

"That's not a negative or positive for us," says Federation CEO Mathew Shay. "It's comfortable though because we think it's a realistic reflection of where we are in the overall economy."

Retailers will still be cautious. Which means that deals and discounts will probably be plentiful this season, but merchandise on the shelves may not be...for long. "If there's something out there you really want for someone and you see it, buy it, because if you wait 'til the last minute it may be gone," Shay says.

Retailers are banking on the idea that that concern over finding what you want when they have it and the fact that they have their holiday decorations up even before Halloween this year, will put everyone in the mood for the holidays.
