Pilot Survives Plane Crash At Reno Air Races

A pilot from the Reno Air Races survived a crash while running in the Super Sport Gold Race Sunday.

George Giboney from Des Moines, Washington was flying the Thunder Mustang named "Rapid Travel" when his plane went down.

He let the crowd know he was okay as he got out of the wreckage, and was then transported to the hospital.

Air Race officials say the T-6 and Unlimited Gold Races have been cancelled due to the high winds being too strong to conduct a safe race.

Officials say according to the rule book, if the last race is cancelled, the pilot who qualified first will be deemed as the default winner.

The winner of the T-6 was the top qualifier, Dennis Buehn from Carson City. Meanwhile, the winner of the Breitling Unlimited Gold Race is Steve Hinton for a second year in a row who says it was a bittersweet victory.
