A fighter pilot based out of Lemoore, California is recovering after a jet crash overnight east of Fallon Naval Air Station.

According to Zip Upham of Fallon NAS, the F/A-18E Super Hornet went down north of Austin, Nevada, about 90 miles east of the Naval Air Station around 10pm Monday night while on a routine training mission in the Fallon Range Training Complex.

The Naval Air Station launched a Search and Rescue Helicopter and recovered the pilot around 11:20pm.  Upham said the pilot ejected 3/4 of a mile from the crash site.  The Air Station will be sending a team out to examine the wreckage of the crash later today.

The pilot, who has yet to be identified, has been hospitalized at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, and is said to have only minor injuries from the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
