Off-duty officer shoots suspected home invader

Associated Press - March 15, 2010 5:25 AM ET

HENDERSON, Nevada (AP) - An off-duty police officer shot a 38-year-old home invasion suspect in the leg at his Henderson residence.

Police spokesman Keith Paul says the suspect was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after being shot Sunday afternoon.

The officer is a member of the Las Vegas force. He has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Paul says suspect Carlos Chacon was fleeing from police after an earlier home invasion in the same neighborhood and entered the officer's home in an apparent effort to escape and was shot.

Chacon's alleged accomplice was quickly apprehended after the earlier home invasion.

Paul says the two suspects were armed with handguns.
