Men's Health Magazine ranks the Biggest Little City #2 on its list of 100 drunkest cities in the United States, ahead of big party cities like Las Vegas and New Orleans.
The magazine based the rankings on a number of factors, including death rates from alcoholic liver disease, alcohol-involved car accidents, frequency of binge drinking in a one month period, number of DUI arrests and stiffness of DUI penalties.
Certified counselor Ron Finfer runs Ability Counseling and DUI School in Reno. He disagrees with the ranking and says, "I work very closely with several judges and they care so much. Our felony DUI program is unmatched."
He also points out all the tourists that come through Reno, saying that could play a big role in the ranking: "People come here on vacation to party. That is something that needs to be considered."
Others we talked to wondered why cities with bigger tourist draws, weren't higher on the list. Las Vegas came in at number 11, the Big Easy at number 21. Boston, with all its pubs, was the most sober city, ranking number 100. And the drunkest city? Fresno at number 1.
The March issue of Men's Health is not yet out on newsstands.
