Northern Nevada's League of Women Voters is keeping a close eye on what's happening in Washington, D.C.

They're excited to know a discussion will take place. Now, the group is concentrating on what Nevada's senators will do when it comes time to vote.

"The league of women voters position is that healthcare should be available to everyone regardless of income, regardless of ability to pay. Everyone should have access to it," says Lisa Stiller, vice-chair of the Northern Nevada's League of Women Voters.

The group has held forums advocating change in the healthcare system.

"Our biggest concern now is if it passes will it just be a drop in the bucket or will it be something that is just out there for show? Is it a political move? We want something that's more than political," Stiller says.

Stiller says she and the rest of the group will keep their attention on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator John Ensign to see how they vote.

"We know that there's a lot of politics involved in healthcare reform, but we really want to encourage Reid and Ensign, our senators, to really do the right thing and moral thing."

The League says it wants to see something done that makes a difference for millions of uninsured Americans and almost a million uninsured Nevadans.

"We want our senators to put aside their political inclinations and their political leanings and say, let's step out of the political box and do the right thing for the American people," Stiller says.

The debate will begin after the Thanksgiving holiday, another 60 votes will be needed to end it. 51 "yeas" are needed for the final passage of the bill.
