CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (AP) - A man and a 10-year-old boy are recovering from injuries suffered when they were hit by a large wave on the Crescent City jetty and washed into the ocean.
Police say 24-year-old Reynaldo Aguilar and the boy, both from the Medford, Ore. area, were walking along the jetty Sunday despite warnings posted to avoid the area when waves are crashing. Sgt. Erik Apperson says the pair were knocked off the jetty and onto some rocks below.
Apperson says the boy didn't appear to be seriously hurt, but Aguilar suffered some facial injuries from the rocks.
Last year, a man died when he was struck by a wave on the jetty and slammed into the jagged rocks. Authorities say Onik Arian, a doctor at Sutter Coast Hospital, was participating in an Audubon Society bird count at the time.
