LAS VEGAS (AP) - A former Libertarian congressional candidate who was shot by Las Vegas police during a traffic stop last week is denying police accounts that he pulled a gun.
In a brief telephone interview from the hospital, 32-year-old Raymond James Duensing (DEN'-sing) said Tuesday he stands by an account posted Sunday on a Web site about the Thursday shooting.
In it, he acknowledges running from the officer after being shocked with a Taser, and that he had a gun and a knife in his pockets.
But he denies ever pulling the weapons out.
Police say Officer David Gilbert shot Duensing when Duensing tried to pull the .45-caliber handgun from his front pants pocket.
Duensing unsuccessfully tried to unseat Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
