Sparks Mayor Geno Martini officially announced Thursday he will run for re-election in 2010.

"I'm declaring my candidacy today so there are no questions as to whether or not I'm running," Mayor Martini said in a released statement. "I'm running for mayor because I care about my hometown and I care about the people and businesses of this great city."

He made the official announcement at Kiley Ranch Communities Thursday afternoon.

The lifelong resident graduated from Sparks High School in the early 1960's. He later received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from the University of Nevada.

Martini became mayor of Sparks in February 2005. During his tenure, he's been involved in the Legends project, Golden Eagle Regional Park and the new whitewater park.

He says he's proud of the past four years, but there is still plenty to be done. "What we're trying to do now is line up and make sure we have all the critical services in place, you know, police force, fire department, public works, those kind of things."

So far, no one has announced they will run against Martini.
