
As many as 40 train cars derailed in rural Humboldt County early Monday morning, according to Union Pacific. However, there were no injuries.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, they got the call of the train derailment around 12:15 am Monday. The train, which was going 58 mph at the time of the accident, derailed in the area of the Stonehouse off-ramp, exit 212 off of Interstate 80.
The train was headed west, from Chicago to Oakland and was carrying miscellaneous cargo. There were no hazardous materials on board.
Investigators are at the scene. Meantime, members of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office will secure the accident scene through the night.
Trains going west have been diverted to eastbound tracks while the derailment is cleaned-up.
