ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A task force is looking at how to blend the Nevada National Guard and the University of Nevada, Reno Fire Science Academy located in Carlin.
The Board of Regents in February decided to give the academy two years to come up with a long-term plan.
UNR President Milton Glick appointed a task force to look at the possibility of having the Nevada National Guard buy the academy and locate with it at the 426-acre site east of Carlin. A purchase price of $10 million has been mentioned.
The Nevada Legislature set aside $8 million this year for a National Guard readiness center without specifying a location.
Academy Executive Director Denise Baclawski says the priority is to keep the academy open and address the issues that face it.
