Bullhead City considering raising building height

Associated Press - October 2, 2009 1:55 PM ET

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Taller buildings in Bullhead City may have a negative impact on operations at Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport.

That assessment comes from airport director David Gaines. He told the Bullhead City Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday that higher buildings and higher residential density "can kill an airport."

Gaines added noise complaints can also negatively affect an airport's operations.

Some residents said they also worry that taller buildings along the river would obstruct scenic views.

Planning commissioners voted to delay further action until their Nov. 5 meeting.

They requested city staff provide pictures of what 60-, 48- and 35-foot buildings would look like on the river and along Highway 95.
