ELY, Nev. (AP) - Silver State Classic Challenge organizers say more than 130 racers from the U.S. and abroad are scheduled to take part in unlimited speed racing on a 90-mile stretch of rural Nevada highway.
The main event is closed to the public Sunday on State Route 318 between Lund and Hiko.
But related racing and car show events are scheduled Friday, including an evening parade of cars beginning at White Pine High School in Ely.
A car show is scheduled Saturday at Broadbent Park.
The twice-a-year event started in 1988. Two racers won a Guinness Book of World Records listing for the highest speed on a public highway in May 2000, when they were clocked at just over 207 mph.
Ely is about 240 miles north of Las Vegas.
