Fernley City Council Appoints New Mayor

The Fernley City Council has appointed Leroy Goodman the city's new mayor. 

After an extensive public interview process by the City Council, Goodman was appointed by the Fernley City Council to fill the remaining term of former Mayor Todd Cutler.

Goodman has lived in Fernley for 43 years. He's retired from Nevada Cement Company and a current Commissioner on the State of Nevada Commission on Economic Development.

Goodman spent 12 years as a Lyon County Commissioner, four years on the Fernley Town Board, retired Lt. Colonel - United States Air Force, board member the Northern Nevada Development Authority, Board of Directors Job Opportunities in Nevada, Board of Directors Nevada Association of Counties, Board of Directors Western Nevada Homes Consortium and Western Nevada Development District.

With Mayor Cutler's term not expiring until next year, the City was required by General Law to fill his seat through a majority vote of the City Council members at the next regular Council meeting following the resignation, in this case by August 5.

Upon accepting his official appointment as Fernley Mayor, Goodman said, "I am honored and appreciate the confidence placed in me by this appointment. I would like to first personally thank Todd Cutler, the outgoing Mayor, for all his hard work and dedication during his term of office. I am both privileged and proud to be voted in as Mayor of Fernley. I shall endeavor to fulfill the role with dignity and purpose. My priorities and mandate will be centered on improving the overall functioning of the council, city operations and focusing on doing the people's business. Fernley is my home and am I committed to giving the citizens of Fernley my absolute best."
