It's not just that they cleared out the cigarettes and took the cash register. Nor that it happened 6 times totaling more than $70,000 in stolen goods.

It's that it happened in Herlong, a town of 900 people. And even though there's surveillance video, no one's been caught. "Last time, visually, I saw with my own eyes and I thought, 'Wow.' It hurts me," Ok Fern installed her eyes in the sky after the fourth break in.

Up to that point, the burglars had been coming through the back door. The last two, they've gotten bold enough to come right through the front and leaving two broken glass doors.

And it happens at night, after the Lassen County sheriff deputy leaves town. "Our police station is all the way in Susanville which is 35 miles away. It's obvious everybody knows that they're here between this hour and that hour," says lifelong Herlong resident Barbara Fritsch.

In other words, criminals know just when to hit. And it's not just happening at Herlong Market, the restaurant next door's been hit too.

Long time residents say, things won't change until there's a deputy in town "patrolling 24 hours" said Fritsch.

If you have any information on the robberies, call the Lassen County Sheriff at 530-257-6121.
