
The Nevada Commission on Economic Development says the Silver State now leads the nation when it comes to increases in international exports.
The report says Nevada's companies raked in a record-breaking $1.098 billion in international exports during the first two months of 2009.
According to the NCED that's nearly a 23% increase over the same period last year translating to more than $204 million more than the year before.
The next best state was Mississippi who posted a 12% gain. Only four states and one territory showed increases with all other states experiencing decreases for the first two months of 2009.
Excluding precious metals exports which were up 65%, many of Nevada's major product sectors showed substantial growth over the same period of 2008, with most showing double-digit or greater increases. The most notable increases of Nevada's exports were in:
* Electrical Machinery, up 11%
* Aircraft parts, up 609%
* Furniture and related products, up 50%
* Base metals, up 244%
* Edible preparations, up 99%
* Beverages, up 11%
* Nickel and items of nickel, up 154%
* Articles of rubber, up 12%
* Articles of stone, plaster and cement, up 716%
* Articles of apparel, up 19%
As for the entire U.S., total exports in the first two months of 2009 were down 22.5%.
