

HIGH WIND WARNING TODAY FOR VALLEYS AND SIERRA.
A strong but fast moving storm is now approaching the California coast will move into the Sierra by early afternoon. Ahead of the frontal system very strong south to southwest wind will gust up to 60-70 mph in the wind prone areas otherwise speeds this morning and afternoon will generally be in the 35-45 mph range until the front arrives early this evening then the wind will begin to decrease. Winter storm warning for the Sierra above 7000' and along the crest for a period of moderate to heavy snow late this afternoon until around 9 PM tonight then snow showers. Accumulations of up to a foot along the crest with 2-6" at the lake most on the west side of the lake. The front will pass through the valleys around 4-7 PM this evening with a few showers and some snow above 5000' with up to 2" possible above 5500'. It could get cold enough to change to snow in the valleys for a short period of time but most of the storm will be to the east. Highs will occur this morning turning colder by late in the day as the front approaches. Weekend weather looks to be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a mountain snow showers late Saturday. Highs over the weekend in the mid to upper 40's.
